Kathleen Leahy, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, provides counseling services to Individuals and Couples in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.  Kathy has a wide range of experience working with a diverse set of individuals, families, couples, parents, LGBTQ, and young adults/college students.  Her specialties include working with Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, OCD, relationship concerns, life transitions, mood disorders, and high functioning autism.  Kathy has training in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy and Sue Johnson's Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.  These two approaches are research-based and have proven to be effective methods to aid a variety of couples in their pursuit to improve their relationship.

Kathy has a genuine interest in getting to know her clients and providing them a non-judgmental setting to explore their concerns.  Kathy is client-centered and she has a goal to meet her clients where they feel stuck to help them feel better.  Kathy draws upon a variety of therapeutic tools, depending upon the needs of the client, to build awareness, reduce client's distress, and provide insight.

Kathy has a background in systems analysis and education but always had an internal passion for psychology.  After coming to her own crossroads in life, Kathy pursued a Masters in Clinical Professional Psychology in 2007 from Chicago's Roosevelt University. Kathy often finds herself drawing from her past career experiences to aid her in understanding in what someone is going through.  Kathy's path in clinical psychology has included working with patients and families in an inpatient behavioral health hospital, helping students navigate challenges in a college counseling center, working with outpatient treatment for people with bipolar and addictions, and private practice.

All ethics procedures are followed including privacy and confidentiality agreements.  If a client needs collaborative care with another doctor or therapist, Kathy will have the client sign a Release of Information form prior to communicating with them.
